CEAE films Calayan Rail documentary
May 2006

A film production crew from the Center for Environmental Awareness and Education descended on Calayan Island last May to shoot footages for a documentary on Philippine biodiversity that includes a segment on the Calayan Rail.

“We are curious about this so-called flightless bird and we would like to tell the story of its discovery and the challenges to its conservation to our audience,” said Marge Babon who led the 4-man crew.

With logistical assistance from ISLA, the film crew interviewed local residents and visited a number of scenic spots in Calayan. They hiked to Longog, where they were able to film the Calayan Rail.

The film documentary is scheduled to be completed by the 1st quarter of 2007 and it is intended to be entered in the Moonrise Film Festival of the same year.
